Repairing the control and safety automation of gas hot water boilers is a key step in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the equipment. At an enterprise in Kharkiv region, gas boilers E-1/9-G, which had been switched to hot water mode, were operating with automation that needed repair. Safety sensors and process control automation were not working. The boilers were operated in manual mode, which led to inefficient fuel use and a potential emergency.

The specialists of IVK ENERGY performed the following repair works:

1. Testing, inspection and repair of process control automation units BARS-3VP.
2. Testing, revision and partial replacement of sensors: flame, vacuum, air pressure, natural gas pressure.
3. Replacement of electric throttle actuators.
4. Installation of frequency converters for boiler fans and smoke exhausters and their connection to the control system from BARS-3VP.
5. Setting up an automatic control and alarm system, as well as an automatic control system for boilers. Preparation of certificates of inspection of the security system.
6. Conducting thermal engineering commissioning tests of boilers in the operational load range. Based on the results of the thermal tests, a technical report was drawn up and boiler operating schedules were developed.

As a result of the work performed, two E-1/9-G boilers operate in automatic mode with standardized efficiency and compliance with safety requirements for the relevant equipment.

The automation system provides:

• automatic ignition of boilers;
• automatic shutdown of boilers with the activation of light and sound alarms in case of deviation of operating parameters (flame presence, water pressure in the boiler, gas pressure in front of the burner, air pressure in front of the burner, vacuum in the furnace, water temperature in the boiler) beyond the normal range;
• automatic regulation of the boilers' heat output depending on the heat demand;
• automatic control of frequency converters on fan and smoke exhauster motors;
• automatic maintenance of the required gas-to-air ratio in the operating load range.
